Friends of Hospice

Friends of Hospice is an important program aimed at increasing awareness and understanding of hospice. Why? Only about a third of those who could benefit from hospice care actually receive it, and those who do enroll often benefit for only a few days.

The California Hospice Foundation has joined with three hospice programs and five community groups in Butte, Glenn and Tehama counties to pilot a new approach to communicating about hospice. These organizations are: the American Cancer Society, Butte-Glenn Medical Society, Butte Home Health and Hospice, Chico Area Interfaith Council, CSU Chico School of Nursing, Enloe Medical Center Hospice, Paradise Hospice (a department of Feather River Hospital) and Passages Adult Resource Center.

We’re asking people in the Butte, Glenn and Tehama counties who have been touched by the special care of hospice to spread the word to friends, neighbors and colleagues. By sending “Friends of Hospice” postcards to people they care about, and offering to share their experience, we believe we can raise awareness of hospice as an option. Right now, this friend-to-friend program is limited to three counties but free informational materials are available in limited quantities to anyone. Click below to learn…
